Sermon Prep Inspiration

Key Elements

• The purpose of any sermon is to edify the church. Edify means, to strengthen, build up, equip, inspire, encourage and help. Tell the truth with love and people will be edified.
• What's the big idea? Write it out in a clear concise sentence.
• Identify the problem or need and what's at stake if this problem or need goes unchecked.
• Identify God's solution and why it's powerful.
• How is Jesus honored in this sermon?
• Why are you excited to preach this sermon? If you're not excited to preach it, listeners won't be excited to hear it. How has this sermon inspired and strengthened you?
• How can you show it, rather than tell it? (Demonstrations and visual illustrations make the message have longer impact, "If you tell me I will forget. If you show me I will remember. If you involve me I will understand." - Benjamin Franklin)
• How can listeners apply your sermon in their everyday lives? We are called to be followers of Jesus, not just spectators. ​​

God Gave You A Unique Voice

​Remember to use the voice God gave YOU. If God wanted another Steven Furtick or Billy Graham he would have created another one, but he created you. So develop your voice and trust the God who made your mouth to help you develop your skills. We need all sorts of styles of preachers to reach all sorts of people.
